We spent most of our time in japantown preparing for the show (and shopping and eating). thanks much to melisser for letting us crash, sorry we didn't get to spend more time together!
we did manage to do some touristy things, like wander around the fog in GG park and stop at fisherman's wharf for musee mechanique, which was a great way to blow all my meter money!

this was my favorite machine - drop in your quarter, and watch daddy cry as his monkey baby plays a tape recording of a real infant being tortured (probably by dangling a shiny object just out of reach.

The main goal this weekend was to make sure Paul's exhibit went well - we took responsibility of setting up the shelves and making sure the figures were shown off as they should be.
it was so great to see the result of *several* weekends of his preparation and painting. each piece has it's own special style and detail, but they all looked terriffic all grouped together.
I wish i had taken more pictures of the individual figures, but it looks like toybot studios has that taken care of!

after the installation was done, we had about an hour to go before the show, and mr. cheeks wanted to get loosened up before the party...

melisser and the gorilla, however, didn't need any loosening up.

fashionably late, the gorilla made his entrance

I had a great time seeing everyone that came out! dollyfriends, toyfriends, and just cool people in general :)

the day after the exhibit, we BBQ'd with
fairyarmadillo (and mr. robot, who may or may not have an LJ) at the always hospitable house of
blastmilk.
mr. cheeks certainly felt right at home with becky's dolls.

butter-pup waited patiently for P to get sloppy, but had to settle for dog biscuits

hats off to the boys for smokin' us some gorgeous ribs!

right before we left, Paul asked becky to "blastmilk-ify" yooskie for a photoshoot. she looks great as a nun, eh?

last stop before heading south: casper's hotdogs in el cerrrito. this place only exists in the bay area - it's a childhood favorite that I have missed terribly since living in san diego.
we bought $50.00 of casper's brand hotdgos at costco to hold me (and my dad!) over for a while...
